Prosecution

The Prosecution Section is composed of 16 attorneys who prosecute all traffic citations and violations of municipal ordinances with criminal penalties, including code compliance cases and violations of Chapter 41A of the Dallas City Code, the city's sexually oriented business ordinance. This section also assists the City Attorney's Office Code Compliance Section with cases filed under Chapter 54 of the Texas Local Government Code in Dallas Civil District Courts.

Each year approximately 450,000 new cases are filed in municipal court. The section's attorneys are responsible for appearing on various dockets set in eight courtrooms where, during an average week, 2,100 cases are set for trial, and another 3,000 are set for appearance dates. This section drafts many of the complaints used to prosecute cases in court, and addresses important municipal legal issues through appeals of cases decided in Municipal Court.
