General Litigation

City government in Dallas is a large, diverse, and complex operation. The mission of the nine lawyers in the General Litigation Section is to represent the City and its officials in a wide range of litigation, which can arise from those operations, including:

• Bankruptcy

• Challenges to city ordinances

• Civil rights class actions

• Collections

• Contract disputes

• Eminent domain

• Environmental issues

• Historic preservation

• Inverse condemnation

• Land use and zoning

• Lease disputes

• Public utility regulation

• Taxation

• Telecommunications

• Urban rehabilitation standards

The scope of representation is equally wide: embracing everything from defending, on short notice, against demands for temporary restraining orders, through discovery and trial, to briefing and argument in the state and federal appellate courts. The lawyers of the General Litigation Section handle some of the City's most challenging and high profile litigation.
