Dallas City Attorney

The General Counsel Division of the Dallas City Attorney’s Office is composed of more than 30 lawyers that are primarily responsible for providing legal advice and counsel to the city council, city boards and commissions and city staff. This Division is responsible for the preparation of all city contracts, ordinances, and real estate transaction documents. Legal advice and counsel is provided on a variety of matters including aviation and transportation, bond and finance, elections, employee retirement, federal and state grant programs, economic development projects, public utilities and water law issues, bid protests and contract claims, minority and women-owned business contracting issues, open meetings, open records, records management, zoning and land use, environmental law issues, proposed legislation, criminal law and procedure, conflicts of interest and ethics. The Division is divided into 6 sections to better handle the array of legal matters presented.
