The Bachman Lake Community Prosecution Target Area consists of a diverse blend of single-family homes, multi-family dwellings, and businesses. The target area is located near Dallas Love Field Airport and encompasses beautiful Bachman Lake. The area has experienced consistently high crime over the last few years, although this year crime appears to be declining. Code compliance is also a concern as homes, apartment complexes, and businesses are advancing in age, and are not always properly maintained. Positive changes in the community include the construction of the DART green line and the opening of a brand new middle school and library this year.
As the community prosecution team in the area, we focus on addressing issues that affect the quality of life for the people living in the neighborhood. One of our focuses is on apartment complexes with high crime rates and poor living conditions. Working with the property owners and management, we address code violations, and work with the police department to reduce crime on the property. We make sure vacant apartments and houses are secure to eliminate the creation of safe havens for gang, or other illegal activity. We also address single-family homes that are nuisances to the neighborhood. Another focus in this area has been on various alcoholic beverage establishments and the problems they can bring. We work with DPD and the TABC to conduct inspections and monitor violations at these establishments. Once a month we meet with DPD, Code, and other City Departments to discuss issues in the target area and to share information in order to improve communication between departments and increase cooperation and collaboration for the betterment of this community. The target area residents are our eyes and ears and we rely on them to bring their concerns to us so we can address them.
I use the Bachman Northwest Highway Community Association as my Citizen Action team meeting. They meet every second Monday of the month at 6:30pm. The location is to be determined as it might be changing from the rec center due to scheduling conflicts.
Also, I am still working on expanding my target area, after speaking to the council members, I’m working on making some changes based on their suggestions.
