Civil Rights

The Civil Rights Section, with three attorneys on staff, primarily handles claims and defends lawsuits involving allegations of federal civil rights violations and state-law torts allegedly committed by Dallas police officers or other City employees. The section also reviews claims that have been filed with the City but have not been filed as lawsuits. The attorneys investigate and recommend dispositions for those claims. The section handles the lawsuits from initial service of process on the City or employee through final disposition, including appeal.
